A Tapestry of Artworks by Karen Grant
Beauty is Vain
While roses are so red,
While lilies are so white,
Shall a woman exalt her face
Because it gives delight?
She's not so sweet as a rose,
A lily's straighter than she,
And if she were as red or white
She'd be but one of three.

A friend of mine actually had this on his rubbish pile ready to go to the tip.
The table - top was missing and it needed a good sanding down.
A piece of MDF made to fit and voila, a unique Australian designer coffee table.
This was an old piece that I had standing around in a dark hall. It was just your typical brown varnished, ugly piece.
Transformed by a water colour posy design and a wonderful eggshell crackle look on the top, sides and front.
Thank the Lord for friends who are willing to give!
This full size old table was given to me to use as a coffee table.
My hubby pulled it apart and stopped all the wobbles and then cut the legs down to size.
I couldn't resist painting this beautiful copy of a Dante Gabriel Rosetti on the top.
The black squares on each side are littered with Gold Leaf
I'm glad my friend didn't want her rickety old table back!
I looked out the window one day and to my shock, my hubby and his friend were loading this old gem onto the trailer ready for the tip.
What could I do?
I screamed of course
and gained another rescued delight.
The design is a sponge, faux marble finish with a brush calligraphy verse from Proverbs 31
"Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain,
but a woman that feareth the LORD
she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands
and let her own works
praise her in the gates"
This rustic old bench seat was graciously left behind for me by a previous landlord.
It was screaming at me to paint it - so I did!
I was actually going to throw this small laminex, nest table out,
when the thought occurred to me that I could transform it with a special design.
The Soul of the Rose to the rescue, along with a brush calligraphy verse -
an heirloom!
The design was taken from an original French Toille
scene on fabric and adapted to suit the piece.
Unlike the other pieces, this one was actually created to suit a workshop originally designed by Merope Mills.
A special old piece acquired somewhere along the way.
Only the front doors were painted.
The top of the arched area is finished in a unique, aged crackle look, using Rich Gold and Deep Plum.
This old Pine Table was transformed using an adaptation of a
William Morris design surrounded by a border of Acanthus leaves - very classy indeed!
Two beautiful antique bristle brushes inspired by Dante Gabrielle Rosetti portraits
I couldn't resist transforming this rare find with a portrait inspired by a painting called
"Eastern Beauty" by Norman Prescott Davies (1862-1915)
I think this is what Queen Esther in the Bible might have looked like.
This old wooden box was transformed using an adaptation of a William Morris tapestry design called "Cabbage and Vine (Vine and Acanthus) "- 1879. A true family heirloom!
